Originally Chimp, she was kit built by Jonathan Leggett at West Mersea, who missed out on winning the 1979 championship by a quarter of a point. However, she managed to put the Impala “bug” into the Leggett family, as son Robert, (born in 1980 nine months after those championships!) has been the owner of Monkey Business since 2001.
She became Beeste under the ownership of Charles Penfold, who kept her at Walton-on-the-Naze, and took her to multiple championship wins in the 1980s and 1990s, becoming one of the most successful Impalas of all time.
She now resides on Strangford Lough, ownded by John Patterson.
